What we like about New Bedford

In the 19th century, New Bedford was the whaling capital of the United States and gained a reputation as the richest city per capita in the world. Later on, the city became one of the largest producers of textiles (cotton and yarn) in the country.

The city has adapted and modernized over the years but still embraces its fascinating history. The New Bedford Whaling Museum is a must-see attraction that tells the exciting stories of whaling. The city is also home to many historic sites and museums. New Bedford boasts a number of festivals throughout the year (from chowder to jazz), along with beautiful waterfront views, fresh seafood and unforgettable attractions.

The fishing industry is still prominent in the area, but the manufacturing and healthcare industries play a significant role in the economy as well.
