Types of Storage Available in Philadelphia

Storage units come in a wide range of sizes to accommodate all types of storage needs. The smallest units might hold a piece of furniture or two plus several boxes, while the largest can store the contents of an entire 3- to 4-bedroom home. Some facilities also offer vehicle storage options.

Some of the most popular sizes include:

  • Small storage units – 5x5 (25 sq. ft.) are great for boxes, small furnishings
  • Medium storage units – 10x10 (100 sq. ft.) can hold a one-bedroom apartment
  • Large storage options – 10x20 (200 sq. ft.) for a whole household or business needs
  • Vehicle storage – Gated outdoor parking up to 35 ft. in length

Climate Controlled Storage Units

The weather in Philly tends to hit extremes in the winter and summer months, making climate-controlled storage a must-have. The temperature in these units is regulated year-round to mitigate the damage that can be caused by high humidity. This helps protect furniture, fabrics, electronics, wood and more from shrinkage, cracking, mold and moisture damage and more.

Indoor Storage Units

All of our climate-controlled storage units are contained in enclosed buildings. These indoor storage units add a second layer of security as building access is restricted by keypad entry, plus these keeps you out of the elements when you’re visiting your storage unit. Don’t worry if you have an upper-floor unit; our elevators are large and our aisles are wide, and we have handcarts onsite for you to borrow!

Vehicle Storage

We know that parking is at a premium in Philadelphia. On-street parking can be a nightmare and garages are rare commodities in many neighborhoods. Don’t worry, Store Space offers vehicle storage solutions at several facilities, to keep your cars, boats, RVs and even work trucks secure and off the street.

Car Storage

SEPTA is Philly’s public transportation network, getting commuters to anywhere they need to go. But you still have a car, right? Keep it safe and secure (and off the street) with gated outdoor car storage at Store Space.

We can accept cars and trucks (including work trucks!) at two of our Philadelphia locations. Stop by East Germantown for outdoor parking up to 20 ft. Drive over to Nicetown-Tioga for outdoor parking up to 35 ft.

Boat Storage

If you have a boat that you don’t want to keep in the water all the time, it’s a good idea to find a storage facility that can accept your trailered boats. Stop by East Germantown for fenced outdoor parking up to 20 ft. or sail over to Nicetown-Tioga for fenced outdoor parking up to 35 ft. Remember to include the length of the trailer when determining the overall length of your boat.

Portable personal watercraft such as kayaks, paddleboards and canoes can be kept in indoor storage units at all our storage facilities.

RV Storage

Parking an RV or camper on the street would certainly attract undue attention. So, don’t risk it and park your investment in secure, gated outdoor storage.

Stop by East Germantown for fenced outdoor parking up to 20 ft. or travel over to Nicetown-Tioga for fenced outdoor parking up to 35 ft. Remember to include your trailer’s tongue when determining the overall length of your recreational vehicle.

What We Like About Philadelphia

There is a lot to like about “The City of Brotherly Love.” From the cheesesteaks to the sports teams to the colleges to the history, we love it all. Here are a few of the things that stand out to us:

History

Philadelphia was one of the cornerstones of the American revolutionary scene. It was already the busiest port in the colonies, and because it was centrally located, it saw much of the early political action, including the First and Second Continental Congresses, the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitutional Convention and many more. It even served as the temporary capital of the United States from 1790 to 1800.

Philly is home to 67 National Historic Landmarks, which run the gamut from the John Coltrane House (at 1511 North 33rd Street, where the jazz saxophonist lived in the 1950s) to the Pennsylvania Hospital (at 800 Spruce Street, which was home to America's first surgical amphitheater) as well as Independence Hall, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, not to mention home to the Liberty Bell.

Education

There are more than 120,000 college and university students attending classes in the Philadelphia area, making it one of the largest concentration of students on the East Coast.

That must mean there are a bunch of schools in the area, right? Yes, there are more than 80 colleges, universities, trade, and specialty schools in the region. Some of the largest include Temple University, Drexel University, the University of Pennsylvania and Thomas Jefferson University. There are also five schools of medicine in the area.

Culture

For those who’ve only experienced Philly through TV shows like “The Goldbergs” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” or movies like “Rocky,” “Creed” and “Invincible,” you’re not getting the whole picture. Besides the obvious historical sites, there are numerous cultural to-dos around Philly, from science to music to art.

If you’re needing a science fix, start by honoring America’s first scientist with a visit to the Franklin Institute, then experience some archaeology and anthropology at the Penn Museum before learning more about the natural world at The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University.

When your brain is overloaded by science, let the city’s art museums paint a new picture for you. Tops on the list include the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts or even the Rodin Museum, which is the second-largest collection of the sculptor’s work.

After your eyes are done with all things science-y and arty, let your ears experience the sounds of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Opera Philadelphia or even The Philly Pops. Of course, Greater Philadelphia gave birth to a number of musicians, including DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, Lil Uzi Vert, Meek Mill, Hall & Oates, Ween, Pink and many more.

Food

Pat’s King of Steaks or Geno’s Steaks? Pat’s (1237 E. Passyunk Ave.) is credited with inventing the Philly cheesesteak in 1933, while Geno’s (1219 South 9th St) moved in—across the street, no less!—in 1966.

There’s probably other food to eat in Philadelphia, but none that start a rivalry like Pat’s vs. Geno’s.

Sports

Philadelphia is one of just 13 U.S. cities with four major sports, and all four teams have won championships. Most recently, the Eagles won Super Bowl LII in 2018. The Phillies won the World Series in 2008, the 76ers won the NBA Finals in 1982-’83, and the Flyers won Lord Stanley’s Cup in 1974-’75.

In college basketball, Villanova has twice won the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament (2016 and 2018), while La Salle, Penn, Saint Joseph’s, Temple and Drexel also compete in D-I basketball.
